Chicago, IL––October 16, 2017 — The Doc Talk Show is a monthly live showcase of non-fiction films by diverse Chicago filmmakers curated by Jeff Spitz, Sundance Film Festival honoree and Columbia College Chicago Associate Professor. Each month Spitz chooses a theme, curates the shorts, casts the filmmakers and facilitates audience engagement with the filmmakers in provocative and timely discussions about the craft of documentary storytelling.
Spitz started The Doc Talk Show to celebrate a new generation of non-fiction filmmakers and to create a friendly space for diverse stories in a city known for stark racial and economic segregation. “Cyberspace separates people into distinct echo chambers and increases our feelings of isolation, fear and anger,” says Spitz who teaches courses in documentary filmmaking and civic engagement. “The Doc Talk Show brings people together in a room, allowing all kinds of characters to break bread and to build new relationships with filmmakers through shared stories and media.”

What & Who: The Doc Talk Show#8: Fight or Flight presents the following filmmakers — films:
- Gordon Quinn, Rachel Dickson, Tracye Matthews, Kartemquin Films’ new release, ’63 Boycott, about Chicagoans fighting school segregation in the ’60s and the recent school closings;
- Liz Kaar––”Stranded By The State” exposes big banks and their toxic swaps in Illinois;
- Kevin Dean–“Pura Vida” about parents who leave the country of Trump and their daughter;
- Jessica Disu––”This Is Not a Drill”about a peace activist who advocates abolishing the police;
- Alana Saad––”Si Se Puede” about Dolores Huerta and memorializing the united farmworkers;
- Ted Hardin––”Summer Dok” about American college students making films in Germany;
- Jeff Spitz–“The Return of Navajo Boy-webisode” about a Navajo quest for environmental justice.
The Doc Talk Show will be livestreamed on Facebook starting at 7pm on October 26th, 2017.
Admission is free with a suggested donation of $20. The venue’s capacity is 50 people and seats run out fast. In order to secure a seat guests must register through Eventbrite.
